A tribute to Garry Jones. RIP (I 'put some elbow grease into it'.)
This is a song I had started writing in 2014 and then continued the writing process because of the loss of my step father who had been fighting cancer. Garry was already at 5 stage when he was diagnosed.
The news came as a shock during my first year of university where I had been busy working in live events and studying music. I had started writing the melody and lyrics as coping mechanism for living with him while observing the early signs of his rapid decline.
In my first year of university I had also been visiting a good friend who had been mentally ill with depression where he couldn't leave his house apart from the corner shop as his condition made day to day life a struggle. I saw that the beauty and care in my friend was similar to that of my step father. However, I could not anything in order to change what was happening to either of them.
Things with Garry were very difficult for all who were close to him. Whenever I could I would try to run away from what was happening around us due to my inability to face the reality!
This song has been my 'medicine'. Seeing the likeness of someone you have loved so dearly in that of others.
Peace and Love.
lyrics
I hope that you are treated kind, Kind in heaven and You can’t see my eyes,
When they bleed for You make me feel like,
Everything has gone away and Take my soul for it needs, Uplifting along the way,
I know that you’ll me kind ‘cause you’re an angel, in my mind and I could see it in you’re eyes,
The light I will always find You are the Light I will always find. I’m crying because I know it all, could be over soon and You are the light forever in the darkness of my mind You are the light I will always find (But where is the light you were yet to find?) I don’t know where we can go now,
I don’t know where we can grow
This tree needs to root somehow I don’t know where we are going
And I don’t know where we can go now,
I don’t know where we can flow
This river needs to run somehow I don’t know where we can go.
I know that you’ll be kind ‘cause you’re angel in my mind and
I could see it in you eyes, The light I will always find, You are the light i will always find.

I owe thanks to 'Mooney' for the work we did together on this version and to Chris Grifoni (Donlon dj) for remastering the lead vocal.
On “Meet Me By the River,” Dawn Landes’s self-described “Nashville record,” buoyant country melodies settle deep into lush instrumentation. Bandcamp New & Notable May 7, 2018
